A 33-year-old Israeli has been killed in a parachuting accident near Wollongong. The parachutist, yet to be named, was from Mevasseret Tzion, but had lived in Wollongong for the past two years working for well-known skydiving outfit, Skydive the Beach.

Alan Moss, the company’s chief instructor, said the Israeli had turned too close to the ground on landing yesterday. He was rushed to Wollongong Hospital suffering from a severely fractured pelvis and a collapsed lung. He went through emergency surgery but died several hours later.

He added: “He would have made about 600 jumps with us, 250 at the same site. His parachute functioned normally and wind conditions were well within the safety limits. He misjudged his turn, resulting in a very high impact landing. He was a very experienced jumper, but not an instructor. He was employed to carry out general duties.”

The parachutist’s family in Israel have been informed of his death. He was not married.
