Israeli powerhouse headlines UIA Victoria AGM
UIA Victoria will hold its 2021 AGM on Zoom later this month with guest speaker Olga Deutsch, Vice-President of Israel-based NGO monitor – a watchdog group exposing charities that fund terrorism.
Olga has extensive experience in international politics, Europe-Israel relations with a particular emphasis on international development, humanitarian aid and civil society. She is an expert in advocacy and building effective strategies to address the BDS movement, modern antisemitism and attempts to delegitimise Israel. In her capacity, she works with elected officials around the world and serves on the extended executive of the World Zionist Organisation.
Before making Aliya from Serbia in 2009, she served as the Chairperson of the European Union of Jewish Students, an umbrella organisation for 34 national unions. In 2008, she received the International Leadership Prize from the American Jewish Committee. Before joining NGO Monitor, Olga held senior positions in the private sector in Europe and Israel.
In a recent Jerusalem Post article Olga said her organisation’s research exposing ties of certain NGOs to terror groups had succeeded in “cuts in funding of $72 million.” The organisation is the independent research institute that publishes analysis on NGOs within the context of the Arab-Israeli conflict. As a result of NGO Monitor’s work, Israel officially designated six Palestinian human rights NGOs as terrorist groups working on behalf of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), an EU and US-designated terror organisation. Their research uncovered that since 2011 EU authorised grants of at least $45 million to NGOs linked to the PFLP.
Join us at our AGM to hear from the inspirational Olga Deutsch on the work of NGO Monitor as well as our incredible year, despite 2021’s challenges. UIA Victoria CEO Jeff Feldman said: “We have delivered a very pleasing result, provided broader engagement with the community and connecting it to Israel and the global Jewish family in innovative and meaningful ways.”
