Israeli org shuts down Miss Hitler pageant
An Israeli human rights organization has been successful in shutting down the online “Miss Hitler 2019” pageant.
The annual beauty pageant is held on the VKontakte social media network, the Russian equivalent of Facebook.
Women are asked to post their photos to the page and explain why they believe they should win while showing that they love and revere the Third Reich of Adolf Hitler. The woman whose picture receives the most likes is declared the winner.
However, this year the competition page was removed following a request by the Israeli B’tsalmo (in his own image) human rights group.
The contest included extreme antisemitic hate speech, dozens of posts praising Hitler and the SS, and the display Nazi symbols. The racist event has been held every year since 2014, attracting neo-Nazis from around the world. Following B’tsalmo’s request, VK agreed to block the inciting page this year.
A company representative said that “the community was blocked due to a violation of our rules. VK will not tolerate calls for violence and extreme nationalist propaganda.”
B’tsalmo CEO Shay Glick thanked VK for the removal of the antisemitic competition.
“The struggle against racism demands a red line and zero tolerance for antisemitism of any kind and form,” he said. “We will continue to fight hatred, incitement and human rights in the world in general and the State of Israel in particular.”
