The Israeli Embassy in Canberra is to relinquish its responsibilty for diplomatic relations with New Zealand.High-level meetings are on the table to take place shortly between Israel and New Zealand with the embassy scheduled to re-open seven years after it was shut down, a victim of Israeli budgetary cuts.
During the period Canberra was dealing with trand-Tasman diplomatic matters, a scandal erupted as two Israelis were arrested for fraudulently obtaining a New Zealand passport. It was claimed at the time that the men were Mossad agents.
