Israeli academic says 25% of Australian Jews marry out

New figures released by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem reveal an increase in inter-marriage throughout the world.

Professor Sergio Della Pergola is an expert in Jewish demographics and the head of Israel-Diaspora relations at the university.

His latest figures show that 41% of world Jewry lives in Israel, but that this figure is expected to rise dramatically over the coming years.

Inter-marriage is at its highest in Russia with 75% marrying out while in the U.S. the figure is 55%. The UK and France is 40%, Canada 35% and Mexico 10%. The university reports that 25% of Australians experience inter-marriage.

13.3 million Jews live in 100 countries throughout the world.
