Israel smoothing the waters with New Zealand
An Israeli diplomat has made a special trip to New Zealand to deliver a letter to the country’s Foreign Minister in an attempt to reconcile diplomatic differences between the two countries.
Problems arose following New Zealand’s appointment of one ambassador to represent the country in both Israel and the Palestine Authority.
Jonathan Curr was not allowed to present his credentials to Israel’s president Reuven Rivlin in September last year because of the dual representation.
Israel’s Haaretz newspaper has published a letter written on December 28 by the country’s foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman to his counterpart in Wellington Murray McCully.
Michael Ronen, the head of the Foreign Ministry’s Pacific division is reported by Haaretz to have met with his counterpart in Wellington and according to Haaretz was told that Wellington “wanted ro resolve the crisis as quickly as possible”.
Lieberman writes: “I would like to affirm our shared interest in solving the accreditation of New Zealand’s ambassador to Israel.”
J-Wire understands that resolving the issue has become critical given that New Zealand now occupies a seat on the United Nations Security Council.
A spokesperson at the Israeli Embassy in Wellington told J-Wire: “This is a press report and nothing official has been received from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs has been released, hence no comment.”
What a farce.
The Palestinian Authority ceased to exist on 3 January 2013.

It has been replaced by the non-existent “State of Palestine”
One Ambassador cannot dance at two weddings.
New Zealand – give us all a break and get into the real world.
David, unfortunately the entire system of international relations / law has been subverted, deformed and perverted by the appeasers, the incompetents, the venal and the antisemites of the world, both at government and individual level.
When it comes to Israel, they violate their own laws, international conventions, custom, logic, not to mention their disdain for equity and justice.
All that might sound like an exaggeration, but the empirical evidence can lead to no other conclusion.
I concord with Leon Poddebsky
It is the New Zealand Government that should send an emissary to Israel to beg forgivenness for its blatantly unfriendly act, one that was intended, clearly, to poke a thumb in Israel’s eye.
Moreover, NZ’s recognition of a “Palestinian” ‘state’ is an insult to what is comically called “international law,”being a blatant violation of the Montevideo Convention on the recognition of states.
Anyway, NZ is now in “good company” among all those other “peace-loving democracies” who sit in the Security Council, China, Russia…have I forgotten anyone?
