Israel gets Australia’s OK
Australia’s Foreign Minister Bob Carr has said that Israel has a right to defend herself following the air attack on military targets in Syria which may have been involved in the transport of weapons to Hezbollah.
In a prepared statement Foreign Minister Carr said: “Reports of an Israeli airstrike in Syria reaffirm the destabilising regional impact of the conflict in Syria.
Reports suggest the strike targeted military facilities which may have been implicated in the transfer of weapons to Hezbollah.
I note that Israel has consistently said that it will take action to stop transfers of this kind. Hezbollah has a long history of attacks against Israel. The Australian Government respects Israel’s right to take necessary and appropriate steps to defend itself.
The destabilising spill-over of this war is acute. The disintegration of the Syrian state dramatically increases the risk of regional instability including the prospect of weapons being transferred from the Syrian state to Hezbollah and other terrorist entities.
These developments confirm the need for an immediate ceasefire and for a peaceful transition from the Assad dictatorship.
They also remind us of the suffering of Syria’s people and the need for the world community to support Australia’s plan for a medical pact.
Good to know but Israel doesn’t need ” Australia’s OK ” to take care of its security, particularly coming from Bob Carr.
The Prime Minister did you proud on the Jewish/Palistinian issues when questions by students who made up the audience on the ABC’s Q&A last night were presented to her.
I doubt if she was expecting anything such as it was, but she spoke fluently and freely, it was great just listening to her tackling this sensitive subject.
Good on her.
Finish the sentence , Bob. Transfer from the Assad dictatorship to what !!!??
