Israel applauds EU decision to further sanction Iran
Israel’s Foreign Minister Israel Katz has applauded the vote of the European Parliament to condemn Iran and impose sanctions on the regime, calling the move a “milestone.”
Israel’s Foreign Ministry called the move “unprecedented” and said, “the declaratory decision is a significant achievement that clearly defines the European position towards Iran, and in practice fully recognizes and embraces Israel’s position regarding Iran.”
The Foreign Ministry also took credit for the move asserting that its political campaigns in Europe to extend the sanctions regime against Iran.
The resolution, passed by a large majority, strongly condemned the Iranian attack on Israel on April 14 and emphasized the European Union’s commitment to the security of the State of Israel.
The EU Parliament’s vote implemented a number of measures including a call to add the Iranian Revolutionary Guards to its list of terrorist organizations, the expansion of the current sanctions regime, including to the fields of oil and banking, acknowledging Iran’s non-compliance with nuclear agreements and giving an ultimatum to it to comply with them if Resolution 2231 of the UN Security Council is not implemented, recognition of Iran’s role in destabilizing the Middle East, including support for Hamas and a call for the implementation of Resolution 1701 in Lebanon.
UN Security Council Resolution 1701 dealt with ending Iranian interference in Lebanon and its aiding terror organizations there like Hezbollah.
“Today the European Parliament passed a crushing decision against the head of the Iranian snake,” said Katz. “The incitement and the funded false propaganda against Israel no longer work. This is what a political defeat looks like – and this is only the beginning.”
Katz went on to call this “another Israeli political success and another blow to Iran.”
“We are tightening the choke ring around the neck of the Iranian octopus and we intend to chop off its arms as well,” he added, “the free world understands that Iran needs to be stopped now before it is too late.”
Minister Katz also called Iran the “biggest danger to regional and global order and peace and the biggest exporter of terrorism in the world” and said that the “murderous regime in Tehran violates the nuclear agreement, develops offensive missiles and exports the Shiite revolution to the entire Middle East and Europe through the Revolutionary Guards and terrorist organizations.”
“This is a message to Europe,” Katz declared, “Stop Iran now before it’s too late.”
