International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
Today, people in Australia and around the world mark International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and make their voice heard about the growing problem of racism and discrimination.
Chairman of the B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission Dvir Abramovich stated: “We know that one act of prejudice against any individual is an assault on all communities. And though we are proud of our incredible diversity and inclusivity, which is a source of our nation’s strength, we acknowledge that there is much work to be done in eliminating the manifestations of bigotry, xenophobia and antisemitism.
As it has done for nearly four decades, the ADC will continue to counter any form of hate and intolerance, provide educational program that inculcate the values of equality and respect for human rights, and ensure that every person enjoys the dignity and freedoms to which they are entitled, regardless of their ethnicity, faith, origin, sexual orientation, creed or colour.
It is our duty, on this day and in this year, which marks the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, to reaffirm our steadfast commitment to the principles of harmony and co-existence, and to intensify our efforts in promoting the foundational values of a civil society which we all cherish.”
