IDF converts hotels into Corona hospitals
The IDF’s Home Front Command has commenced with the process of converting several hotels at central locations in Israel into convalescent centres for Israelis infected with Coronavirus.
Hotels from the Dan network in Jerusalem, Haifa and Tel Aviv, which were shut down days ago due to the lack of tourism, were opened Tuesday for Corona patients, as the state expects the number of patients to grow significantly in the coming days.
The 298 Israelis already diagnosed with Coronavirus are currently hospitalized or are recovering at home. The hotels will host patients in light conditions and make room in the hospitals for those who require intensive treatment and close monitoring while curbing the spread of the virus.
The Ministry of Defense intends to increase the number of hotels that will host Corona patients.
The IDF’s Home Front Command also opened a joint information centre with MDA, Israel’s emergency medical service, aimed at increasing the response to coronavirus and addressing the public’s concerns.
The Home Front Command, which is trained to work with the civilian population at times of crisis, called up several thousand of its reserve troops in recent days to lend support to MDA and the Ministry of Health in their fight against Corona.
