Iconic Jewish Women
The inspiring life stories of fifty-nine remarkable Jewish women from past and present come together to create the perfect gift for young girls on the precipice of their teenage years as well as the adults in their lives.
Over the course of history, Jewish women have served as leaders, changemakers, teachers, scholars, and revolutionaries. Their actions have made the world what it is today; their stories model for us how much can be accomplished when one has the vision and determination to pursue a dream.
With Iconic Jewish Women, girls will set off on a powerful journey to become part of the world of Jewish women. They will learn about steadfast Golda Meir, brilliant Rita Levi-Montalcini, incisive Ruth Bader Ginsburg, dedicated Queen Esther, fearless Sarah Aaronsohn, and many more inspiring Jewish women who rose up and changed the world around them—and be encouraged to engage with their legacies in concrete ways.
Focusing on the deeply meaningful occasion of a Jewish girl’s bat mitzvah, author Aliza Lavie crafts an uplifting experience to connect girls to their heritage and spark a generation of heroines.
Author Aliza Lavie writes: “Iconic Jewish Women is an invitation to connect to a woman whose life story speaks to you or who arouses curiosity and creativity within you. In delving into the life of the woman you’ve selected, you can pick a way to mark your celebration based on the suggestions given in the chapter, or create your own, a ceremony of transition from childhood to Jewish adulthood that is appropriate for you and only you.
My hope is that you use the stories of Iconic Jewish Women to discover your own identity and your own path, and to learn more about your gifts and what important provisions they give you on your journey.”
Aliza Lavie, PhD, is a former Member of the Israeli Knesset, lecturer, writer, chair of the Israel Film Council, and founder of the Shaycha venture for educational technology.

Lavie’s public activity focuses on social and gender equality, the intersection between religion and state, reinforcing the connection between Israel and the Diaspora, and strengthening the image of the State of Israel as Jewish and democratic.
