How Israel Investigates War Crimes
The New South Wales Jewish Board of Deputies plenum will receive insights as to how Israel investigates allegations of war crimes from a member of the investigating committee later this month.
Professor Tim McCormack will speak on “The Turkel Commission’s Report for Phase II – Enquiring Into Israel’s Processes for Investigating Alleged War Crimes” at the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies plenum in Darlinghurst on Tuesday evening, March 19.
He will discuss the mandate of the Commission – from Phase I on the Mavi Mamara flotilla incident and the broadening of the Commission’s enquiry to Phase II. He will briefly explain the approach undertaken in the preparation of the report, its findings and the key recommendations to the Israeli Government. He will also attempt to explain his views about the significance of the Commission’s work and reactions to it within Israeli society generally and among the relevant Israeli Government agencies.
The meeting will be held in the Benefactors Hall at 7.30pm.
Professor McCormack is Professor of Law at the University of Melbourne, Special Adviser on International Humanitarian Law to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court in The Hague and an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Tasmania.
