An honour for Norman
The president of the Jewish Community Council of South Australia has been appointed a director of The National Australia Day Council.
The appointment was announced by Prime Minister Tony Abbott.
The Council for Australia Day 2015 is being chaired by Benjamin Roberts-Smith VC MG, Australia’s most decorated soldier.
Adelaide-based Norman Schueler arrived in Australia in 1966 and became an Australian citizen in the 80s. He has been involved in Australia day activities for 12 years.
He told J-Wire: “My duties will involve co-ordinating activities throughout Australia. The focus of the planning will be based in Canberra but I see my appointment as an honour for South Australia. There has been a 10 year period now without anyone from the State being involved.”
For as long as he can remember, Schueler has been involved in multicultural activities and is currently a member of the South Australian Multicultural and Ethnic Affairs Commission.
