Senior members of the Rabbinical Council of Victoria (RCV) Executive, together with Isaac Teller, President of the Council of Orthodox Synagogues Victoria, have met with Leader of the Victorian Opposition Daniel Andrews.
Joining the State’s opposition leader were MPs James Merlino and Marsha Thompson.
The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss areas of mutual concern such as education, security and multiculturalism.
Rabbi Daniel Rabin, Vice President of the RCV spoke about the forthcoming Day of Atonement and Succot festival and thanked Mr Andrews for his personal support and commitment to Israel and its right to exist and defend itself.
Rabbi Meir Shlomo Kluwgant, RCV Immediate Past President, recited a blessing of peace for all Victorians and Australians.
Mr Andrews expressed his appreciation of the RCV for its religious leadership in the community and reaffirmed his party’s commitment to the safety and security of the local Jewish community and to Israel.
Rabbi Rabin was delighted with the outcome of the meeting. “It was a great honour for the RCV to meet with Mr Andrews and his colleagues and to discuss issues concerning the Victorian Jewish Community over delicious honey cake.”
