The Executive Council of Australian Jewry has welcomed the mandatory inclusion of the Holocaust as a topic of study in the latest version of the National Education Curriculum for Year 10 history.

“The revised content description appears to be an improvement on the original draft”, said ECAJ Executive Director, Peter Wertheim.  “One difficulty is that study of the Holocaust is limited to the years 1942-1945.  This is inaccurate and omits the Nazi program of mass shootings and other atrocities between 1939 and 1941 in which 1.5 million Jews were systematically put to death”.

“The ECAJ will consult with the day-schools and educators before responding formally to the government”, he added.
