The Holocaust Centre in Wellington has offered to transport a special exhibition together with a survivor to Christchurch’s Lincoln University where students held a party trivialising the Shoah.

Inge Wolff, Director of the Wellington Holocaust Research and Education Centre said: “I intend to contact the university and offer them an education package for their students and a meeting with a survivor…either here in Wellington or at the university itself.”

First year students masqueraded as both Nazis and Jewish concentration camp inmates at the party held last Friday. One distressed student alerted the the local newspaper and New Zeland’s Channel 3 has aired footage of the party.

Roger Field, the Vice-Chancellor of the university said: “Lincoln University is taking this issue very seriously. I will be taking apporopriate action and formally apologise for any offence caused.”

New Zealand does not include the Holocaust in its education syllabus.

Does anyone have information on a successful action by Wellington Jewish Youth that removed an Austrian diplomat from his embassy post? Name may have been Dorfmann, 1970s.
