At JewishCare, COA and Mt Sinai’s challah bake

JewishCare , COA and Mt Sinai held a challah preparation event which was attended by 80 people. Each person was given prepared dough generously donated by Glicks. They were then guided though the steps to finish the challah so it was ready to take home and bake.

To celebrate this unique Shabbat weekend, there are over 75 community events taking place all around Sydney. These events are listed below- please visit the Shabbat Project website or Facebook page to get further information and register.

Shabbat Dinners with a twist

  • J-Junction’s Pull Up a Chair initiative ensures that every person has a place at a Shabbat Table on Friday night. Register if you would like to be a host, or be hosted.
  • For Young Adults, join over 100 people at a Middle Eastern Feast on Friday night.

Fun for kids and families

Bring your kids along to these events, specifically for the children of our community:

 

  • An afternoon Family Picnic in Bondi with sports, and afternoon activities brought to you by the Youth Movements, concluding with a family friendly Havdalah. (Saturday 24 October)

Speaker Circuit: Saturday Afternoon Schmooze

National and International guest speakers will be presenting on a diverse range of hot topics, in various locations throughout the Eastern Suburbs. Each location has carefully selected speakers so let the surprise of which speakers are where, be part of the Shabbat Afternoon Schmooze fun. Some of the speakers include Cheryl Bart, Sharri Markson, Carli Freiberg, Vic Alhadeff, Nikki Goldstein, Hanna Foxman and Simon Holloway.

Havdalah Events to farewell the Shabbat and bring in a new week

Bid a spiritual farewell to Shabbat and bring in a new week at a Havdalah concert on Saturday evening:

  • North Shore: Everyone is welcome to join our North Shore community at an evening of celebration – with food, fire, live music, singing and dancing with Isser and the Drum Café. $10 entry includes food and a Havdalah kit. Registration is essential.
  • Maroubra: This free, all ages event, will feature Israeli dancing and festivities. Refreshments available. Registration is essential.
  • Join the Grand Havdalah Concert & Fireworks Show in the East featuring International Music Sensation Yosef Chaim Shwekey in concert!

Hakhel Farbrengen (for men only)

A free men’s only event, featuring singing, dancing and inspiring words of Torah will take place on Saturday. Bookings are essential by Monday 19 October.
