Hawkes Bay Friends of Israel condemn McCully and UNSC settlement vote
As Chairman I John McCormick condemn Murray McCully for promoting and supporting by vote the UN SC resolution calling on Israel to stop building settlements in the West bank.
The resolution will have no effect on Israel as settlements in the past have not proved to be an obstacle to peace.
The problem is a lack of a United Palestinian leadership and a lack of a leader with standing in his community and around the world.
Israel is not short of Prime Ministers who can make peace. Menachem Begin and Anwar Sadat made a peace deal totally separate from the UN. That resulted in a total with drawl from the Sinai. Begin sent Ariel Sharon into the Sinai to remove the settlers and he did the job. We supported that peace settlement by becoming foundation members of the Sinai Multi National Force and Observers.
In other words They (Egypt and Israel) worked out a deal and we supported it and still do.
There is a peace treaty with Jordan.
More recently Prime Minister Sharon pulled out of Gaza lot stock and barrel WITHOUT a Peace Treaty , including every settlement. At the same time they have withdrawn from an area in the West Bank around Jenin city in the north east.
Israel has shown it will do a deal and honour it and will act if the need be, without a treaty.
The problem is there is no Palestinian leader today who will deal with Israel seriously. Israel has made peace offers including joint control of Jerusalem and none of them have been excepted. Why? Well maybe the fact that the Palestine liberation Organization from which the PLA is decended was formed in 1964 when there was no Israeli occupied territory is the real reason.
The UN has no credulity in the eyes of the Israeli people. The nonsense we have seen from UNESCO in denying historical fact and the actions of the WHO in recent years clearly show that they can never be trusted to lead any peace process or to have any part in such a process.
Neither will the forth coming peace conference in Paris to which the Palestinians and Israel are not invited.
Sir Don McKinnon when Foreign Minister said ‘that It was not our job to dictate to them what the peace treaty show be, but ours to support the agreement they come up with’.
Murray McCully has finally torn up the even handed Policy New Zealand has always claimed it had by supporting Obama and this resolution.
The UN resolution has given McCully his legacy to hang his hat on. But he and Obama have really done nothing to help the peace process. The world will come to see that sooner rather than later.
Its time for Murray to Take note of Sir Don’s wise words

Your article making an appeal for the Israeli Government to reconsider its recall of our ambassador to the NZ comes across as selfish, which I hope was not its intent. This is not about sustaining the Jewish community in NZ but very much more about sustaining the well being of our Jewish communities in our Jewish Homeland. The article also bordered on pathos when it urged one to consider the multi-cultural aspect of the work of the Jewish community in NZ. Was this is a subtle hint trying to distance the Jewish people of NZ from what might be considered as an apartheid regime in Israel? Otherwise, what was the point of making such reference? I challenge you to have the courage to publish this comment on your website, and prove that you can maintain a balanced media platform.
Obama bowed to and kissed the hand of the Jew hating, Christian hating, woman hating, gay hating, America hating, Europe hating, Shia hating, murderer king of Saudi Arabia, leader of the Sunni Muslim world. That is, Obama scraped, grovelled, bowed and kissed the hand of. Kissed the hand of.
So what’s taken him so long and what’s the big surprise?
