HaShomer HaChadash recruits volunteers to work in agriculture close to Gaza
From the moment the war in the south began, HaShomer HaChadash established a headquarters recruiting volunteers to assist in agricultural work and the protection of agricultural areas.
In many agricultural areas in the Gaza area, there is a shortage of workers, especially among farmers affected or drafted for reserve duty, creating a real and urgent need for “working hands” to harvest the agricultural produce.
In many evacuated communities, the farmers are the only ones left, and they rely on the assistance of volunteers. Thousands of requests have reached “HaShomer HaChadash,” and hundreds of volunteers have headed to the Gaza area communities every day.
In Moshav Yated, a community on the border of the Gaza Strip, many HaShomer HaChadash volunteers are helping with the harvesting of the crops after many agricultural workers left the farms.
Eyal Cohen, a farmer from Moshav Yated said: “The agricultural sector is facing a crisis due to a manpower shortage. Amazing volunteers from ‘HaShomer HaChadash’ come here and help us with harvesting and picking the crops. They are extraordinary people who help us continue our essential agricultural work, even during these times of war. This is true Zionism .”
Shai Zohar, a volunteer and a high-tech worker from Rosh Ha’ayin, added: “I came to help and do my best to assist in agricultural activities close to Gaza. There is a lot of agricultural produce, and it is a real mission to be here and help. ‘HaShomer HaChadash’ has established effective and organized structures and deploys volunteers among the farmers to help as much as possible. I call on as many volunteers as possible to help us with this important volunteer work. Even when we volunteer and help in agriculture, we can hear the sounds of war not far from us, but volunteering is a good deed, and I am glad to have the opportunity to help.”
