Hadassah New Zealand fund-raising to help Palestinian children
Hadassah New Zealand is planning to raise funds for the Rozana Project by participating in the March 2014 Jerusalem marathon and generating donations from sponsors in New Zealand and Israel.
Adding to the 25 expected participants from New Zealand will be Kiwis or those with a NZ connection living in Israel.
Yitzhak Treister and Hanoch Ganor (Henry Fliegner) are the Israel-based co-ordinators.
An information meeting which established contacts held at Hadassah last week between ex Kiwi Yitzhak Treister who is an Israeli co-ordinator for this event and Tali Dowek, the Director of Hadassah’s Department of Development, Donors & Events. together with Michael Kuttner, J-Wire’s Israel based correspondent.
Tali advised that since the launch of the Rozana Project about 2 years ago, Australia Hadassah and Anglican Aid have raised US$100,000.
She explained that the funds raised were in a special account at Hadassah Jerusalem and was intended to be used for three main purposes:
1. Support for Palestinian Arab children requiring specialized medical treatment at Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem.
2. Support for Palestinian Arab doctors doing a residency at Hadassah. This spans 4 to 5 years and the annual cost to train each resident is approx. US$70,000
3. To provide short term training at Hadassah for Palestinian Arab doctors and medical experts in specific fields such as outpatient psychological/psychiatric clinics and associated disciplines.
During the last 10 years some 73 Palestinian Arab doctors have participated in residency training courses at Hadassah. As this is a very expensive undertaking the funds raised for the Rozana Project will be essential to its continuation. The objective of this project is to enable Palestinian medical professionals in various specialties to acquire the latest skills and training for which Hadassah is world renowned. Once they have completed their respective courses they will return to their communities to treat patients in Palestinian Authority hospitals and clinics. The Rozana Project is an example of how medicine can encourage goodwill and mutual tolerance while at the same time improve the lives of those who up till now had no hope of having access to such world class care.
The promotion of Hadassah NZ’s participation was discussed with Tali Dowek offering to arrange a meeting with Rozana, the Arab girl who was successfully treated at Hadassah and for whom the project is named and her mother as well as the Director of Pediatrics so that the New Zealand participants could be appraised of this worthwhile enterprise.
Yitzhak advised that a week long series of activities was envisaged before and after the marathon one of which would be a tour of Hadassah Ein Karem campus with special emphasis on the Rozana Project and NZ associated projects at the hospital such as the baby quilts, the Lady Marion Davis lobby and the Valda Knight Nurses’ Station (Dalpak).
Thinking at the margin, I’m not sure how more medical treatment leads to more violence.
Thinking about the dollars, I’m not sure that US$100k would go very far in US$70k lumps, so I guess that there’s something that I don’t understand.
How ridiculous!
there are so many disadvantaged Jewish children in Israel.
there are so many Jewish facilities that are understaffed or underequipped.
so,why on earth direct funds to the very people who deny the existance of the Jewish state and vow to drive all the Jews into the sea.
ABSOLUTE STUPIDITY
Oh, goody goody!! Jews raise funds to help “Palestinians”, a people concocted by the KGB to deny Jewish rights. These funds are used for humanitarian purposes to aid people who deny the humanity of Jews and whose regimes in Ramallah and Gaza City continue to incite murderous hatred toward Jews. The funding for the programs to help Arab children and medicos is not matched by the PA or by UNWRA, but why should it be; the Jewish money is rightfully that of the mohammedans as a form of jizya (tribute cum protection money). And Jews of course are so wealthy that there is no disadvantage in our community and we have money to spare on helping our enemies even if that help is denied or disparaged. Brilliant!
