Guess who’s coming to Shul? Cate Blanchett!
All eyes will be on the women’s gallery [if you are sitting on the right side] in Sydney’s Central Synagogue this Friday night as Cate Blanchett checks out a Shabbat service at the Bondi shul.
Invited by the shul’s charismatic Rabbi Levi Wolff to talk at their monthly Friday night singles’ dinner, Blanchett expressed a desire to familiarise herself with the service before attending the dinner.
Her husband, playwright and screenwriter Andrew Upton, will join her in Shul. Blanchett won an Academy Award as best supporting actress in the movie “The Aviator” portraying fellow Oscar-winner, Katharine Hepburn, who received Hollywood’s highest honour four times.
Blanchett will miss out on Central’s own star, Chazan Shimon Farkas who has a prior commitment in Melbourne. He told J-Wire: “I am really disappointed not to be singing for her, but that’s shul business!”
