I am delighted to send my best wishes to everyone in NSW celebrating Israel Independence Day, or Yom Ha’atzmaut, on 18 and 19 April 2018.

Ray Williams

This year marks 70 years since the state of Israel was formally established by David Ben-Gurion’s reading of the Declaration of Independence in Tel Aviv in 1948.

We have been fortunate in Australia that generations of migrants who have come here from Israel, or who have connections with Israel, have worked hard to help build our nation and NSW.

Admirably, they have done so while ensuring their culture, religion and language remain strong and vibrant.

The NSW Government is proud to support the Jewish community and most recently provided funding to Jewish Arts Inc., Chabad Youth NSW and Moving Forward Together Association.

I thank Jewish Australians, and those with links to Israel, for their positive contribution to our multicultural society.
