Greens no longer automatically preferred
The NSW Labor Party’s annual conference has this weekend overwhelmingly resolved to deny the Greens automatic preferences at elections and reaffirmed Labor will continue to put One Nation and other “racist right” parties last.
Reporting from the conference votong delegate NSW Labor MP Mr Walt Secord said that when it came to the Greens, a clear majority of the NSW ALP’s 850 delegates, including the Socialist Left, supported a resolution that “NSW Labor should not provide the Greens Party with automatic preferential treatment in any future preference negotiations”.
“The decision was carried on the voices,” Mr Secord said.
At the conference, NSW Labor general secretary Sam Dastyari has declared the free ride should be over in any preference deal with the Greens.
Mr Dastyari declared: “From today the free ride is over. It’s time to redefine our relationship with the Greens party.
“At this conference we’ll be proposing that the Labor party not provide the Greens Party with automatic preferential treatment.
“The Greens political party are not our friends, they are not our allies, they are our political rivals,” Mr Dastyari said.
Last week, before the conference, Mr Secord and his parliamentary colleague and former NSW Treasurer, Mr Eric Roozendaal – in a joint statement – said the Greens in NSW will “carry forever the stain” of supporting the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) campaign against Israel.
Before the conference, Mr Secord and colleague, Mr Eric Roozendaal, who is a former Treasurer and MP said they both wanted to see the Labor Party take a tougher position against the Greens, especially in light of the latter’s position on the State of Israel.
“The Greens will carry forever the stain of their support for the BDS campaign and their attempts to delegitimise Israel and the Jewish community – and this is one of the reasons why we must stand strong against the Greens,” they said.
At the conference, ALP delegates also heard speeches by Prime Minister Julia Gillard and NSW Opposition leader, John Robertson.
It really is quite simple.
From Labor, the Coalition is the legitimate opponent.
From the Coalition, Labor is the legitimate opponent .
To both Labor and Coalition, in reality, as well as to Australia,
The Greens are the enemy!
And as such they should be treated.
I would hate to think the hard work by David Shoebridge in having the laws changed so the Catholic Church can be sued for negligence and the calling for a Royal Commission will be lost.
He is the only politician ever to have taken this public stand and there would be many happily see this outcome.
I would hate to see the damage the Greens have inflicted on the wider Australian community perpetuated.
Not righting the wrongs, affects tomorrow, and lives of generations to come.
Give me the life of a child any day, any day at all.
