200 young volunteers gave of their time to participate in the annual JNF NSW’s Green Sunday telethon.

JNF’s Green Sunday Campaign is held each year in February to coincide with Tu Bishvat – A New Year for the Trees! The Green Sunday campaign has consistently raised funds for life- changing environmental projects in Israel. The 2023 appeal is raising funds for a project that promotes clean and safe water on Israel’s southern coastline by supporting an organisation that is near and dear to our Australian hearts…. Israel Life Saving Federation’s (ILSF) Nippers Program. With the support of JNF Australia, ILSF who base their education goals and methodology on those of Surf Living Saving Australia, is introducing their Nippers program to the beaches of Ashkelon in Southern Israel.

Volunteers included students from Kesser Torah, Moriah College, Masada College, and Emanuel School as well as members of AUJS, Hineni, Betar, Bnei Akiva, Netzer and HaTzofim who were kept nourished by snacks, generously provided by Krinskys. Pack & Send also donated their services to JNF transporting materials for the event.

JNF Australia CEO Dan Springer and volunteers Sheila Lazarus, George Weisz, Barbara and Selwyn Abrahams joined the youth volunteers at Moriah College’s Hamakom.

Education shaliach Yigal Nisell, who came from Israel to organise this telethon and to train and motivate the students, commented, “Sydney’s next generation of Jewish leaders will develop from this wonderful group of active students. Their commitment and engagement were contagious. It was beautiful to see them working together as a community for a bigger and common good.”

We appreciate everyone that contributed to the ILSF campaign, it will help the most vulnerable communities near the Gaza border, by bringing them the joy of the ocean and ensuring a clean, sustainable, and water-safe future.
