Frydenberg lashes out at protestors portraying premier as a Nazi
Hundreds of protestors descended on Melbourne’s CBD on Saturday condemning legislation before the Victorian gogernment to give Premier Dan Andrews to declare a pandemic and his health minister to order mandated vaccines and lockdowns.
Some placards showed a blown-up image of a Nazi officer with Daniel Andrews’ face superimposed.
Federal Treasurer Josh Frydenberg tweeted: “I don’t agree with Daniel Andrews Pandemic Bill. It’s overreach & has rightly been condemned. But placards depicting the Premier in Nazi uniform is offensive & wrong. It shows a lack of understanding of history. It fuels hatred.
It’s dangerous & has no place in public debate.I don’t agree with Daniel Andrews Pandemic Bill. It’s overreach & has rightly been condemned. But placards depicting the Premier in Nazi uniform is offensive & wrong. It shows a lack of understanding of history. It fuels hatred. It’s dangerous & has no place in public debate.”
Federal Labor MP Josh Burns told J-Wire: “There is no excuse and no justification for comparing any laws or politicians in Victoria to the regime of Hitler’s Nazi Germany. It is as offensive as it is wrong.
It was good to see Josh Frydenberg condemn these offensive comparisons.
It should be incumbent on all politicians to demonstrate leadership, to call this ugly behaviour out and to calm tensions, not inflame them.“
The bill has been passed in the lower house and is set to be debated in the upper chamber this week.
Poor Daniel Andrews! So hardworking, and sincere, in trying to keep Victorians safe during the pandemic – now depicted as a Nazi.
These people protesting in this way show themselves for what they are: foolish and ignorant. Place them in the Nazi Germany of the 1930s on, or even in a situation with thousands dying all around them and maybe they’re next, and it would be a different story. No imagination and no knowledge of history.
