Jeremy Buckingham, a Greens member of the NSW Legislative Council, has joined the Parliamentary Friends of Israel. He has also joined the Parliamentary Friends of Palestine.

Jeremy Buckingam

Buckingham, who lives in Orange, prepared a statement announcing his reasons for the twin moves.

He said: “I have joined the Parliamentary Friends of Palestine and the Parliamentary Friends of Israel. I joined these groups to gain a better understanding of the issues and to connect with people in these communities.”

“I am very supportive of Bob Brown’s call for the Australian Government to support the United Nations Resolution recognising a Palestinian State.”

“There are a variety of ways to express concern about the abuse of Palestinian human rights and to push for a just peace between Israelis and Palestinians.  I am concerned that the tone and the public perception of the Max Brenner protests may be counter-productive to the cause of peace and human rights in the Middle East.”

Statements of fact:

The Greens NSW are currently reviewing our support of the BDS.

The Max Brenner protests have not been organised or endorsed by the Greens party.

  1. Great to hear that there are some Parlimentarians who know truth and are not carried away with the lies of the day we live in about Israel!! I am very proud of you!!!

  2. I respectfully ask, what would an aithiest like bob brown know about the truth of anything to do with Israel to have any say at all regarding important issues to do with the country!!!

While the endangered species of a friend of things Israeli among the Greens is most welcome, one hopes that affable Mr. Buckingham will dedicate some investigative time and effort in finding out why, in the present shape and substance, the palestinian alternate buddies contain serious uncompromising features making them rather less than qualified for a harmonious communal coupling. In the etheral spheres the lyrics of friendship sound almost divine, on the ground, though, one hears the distonance of anti Jewish canards and villifications, a palestinian leitmotif worth attending to by all genuine friends of the Jewish community. Something to inspire all Greens !

I cannot be more “compromising”, Mr JW/HB….

  4. The Greens should stick to the environment.

Starting to read this post I thought “ah well, he is having a bet each way”, but then this:

“…“I am very supportive of Bob Brown’s call for the Australian Government to support the United Nations Resolution recognising a Palestinian State…”

hmmmmm….what is the sub-title to that one?

  6. Yosi Tal says:

I hope this is genuine and not a cynical exercise by Mr Buckingham.
