Former PM Kevin Rudd joins NIF for exclusive event discussing Israel & the Middle East
Australia’s 26th prime minister, Kevin Rudd, will join NIF Australia for an exclusive event to talk about Israel, the United Arab Emirates normalisation deal and the future of the Middle East.
“As a former foreign minister and prime minister, and a prominent Australian on the international stage, Kevin Rudd’s perspective on recent news out of the region promises to be illuminating,” said executive director Liam Getreu.
In recent times, Rudd has spoken out against the Israeli government’s plans for annexation of parts of the West Bank, telling the Nine newspapers that “as a longstanding supporter of Israel’s right to exist with peace and security for the Israeli people, I urge the Israeli government to urgently reconsider this proposed course of action.”
“There’s much insight that Rudd can offer our community – what a future Labor government might do to move forward a two-state solution, the UN’s role in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and his personal experience with the leaders shaping the Middle East today,” continued Getreu.
With expertise on China, he will also speak more broadly about the role of foreign powers in the Middle East, including China and Russia, as well as the new strategic alliance between Israel and the UAE.
NIF’s event with Kevin Rudd follows events this year with other eminent speakers, including former US ambassador to Israel Martin Indyk, Labor Knesset member Merav Michaeli, Israeli author AB Yehoshua and Shtisel actress Neta Riskin.
The author of two books, Rudd has been president of the Asia Society Policy Institute since 2015, chair of the board of the International Peace Institute since 2018 and more recently a member of the IMF external advisory group tackling international issues caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The event is on September 9 at 8pm. Register here: https://www.nif.org.au/rudd2020
A match made in heaven!!
A professed friend of Israel whose policies would lead to Israel’s suicide and whose silence about the terror supporting PA/PLO & friends is deafening combined with an NGO which funds groups working to undermine the Jewish State – what better bed mates could one wish for?
