For Budding Young Composers
The Sydney Symphony has launched the Sydney Symphony Fellowship Composition Prize, an exciting new competition aimed at young Australian composers.
Composers aged between 18 and 29 are invited to submit a brand new work written for oboe, clarinet, bassoon, French horn, violin, viola, cello and double bass – the instruments that make up the 2012 Sydney Symphony Fellowship ensemble.
The winner will be flown to Sydney from their nearest capital city to hear their music premiered live by the Sydney Symphony Fellows in November. The performance will also be recorded by ABC Classic FM for delayed broadcast.
The Sydney Symphony has a longstanding commitment to educating the next generation of Australian musicians. The Sydney Symphony Fellows, supported by the orchestra’s Premier Partner Credit Suisse, are young classical musicians in Australia on the verge of their professional careers.
Roger Benedict, Artistic Director of the Fellowship Program, said: “It is a privilege to be involved in the development of young musicians at such a crucial stage in their professional lives and I am delighted that through this new prize we can also celebrate the talents of young Australian composers.”
Submissions will be adjudicated by Roger Benedict, as well as renowned Australian composers Ross Edwards and Paul Stanhope.
Entries must be received by 26 October, 2012. Further information and full competition guidelines are available on the Sydney Symphony website: http://www.sydneysymphony.com/education/for‐emerging‐artists/sydney‐symphony‐ fellowship.aspx
