Sydney crisis care community charity Jewish House has hosted an information evening for interested potential  foster care families.

Rabbi Mendel Kastel with Ghasssan Noujaim from SSI and Kati  Anthony-Benson from FACS

In partnership with foster care provider services – Department of Family and Community Services (FACS), Creating Links Ltd, and Settlement Services, Jewish House invited more than 40 guests to an information evening to highlight the importance and process for creating safe and secure households and family units for many displaced local children and minors in our community.

Jewish House CEO, Rabbi Mendel Kastel said: “The importance of a safe and secure environment is a fundamental human need, and one that is at the very heart of the work we do here at Jewish House with our crisis care and support services. Empowering our local community to do a similar style of work in their households and family communities is something we are very proud to be able to bring to life. This has been a very successful and encouraging evening.”

He told J-Wire: “We have facing the problems for years of watching helplessly Jewish children being taken to non-Jewish foster homes. Now the future is bright and were happy to see representatives of JewishCare taking part in the evening.”

  1. Rabbi Pinchos Woolstone says:

What a wonderful partnership between JH and JC.
Since the days when the Jewish residential home closed its doors too many Jewish children both orphans and those unable to live at home were fostered out among non-Jews.
May this new initiative ensure vulnerable Jewish children are brought up in the community.
