Fashionably Faithful
More than 140 people attended the final Dressing Sydney Public Programs talk titled Fashionably Faithful, held at the Sydney Jewish Museum.
The panel featured Muslim, Catholic, Jewish and Hindu faiths discussing how fashion plays an important part in representing individuality within religion.
Panellists Deborah Niassof and Tarik Houchar spoke about their love for fashion and that the faithful can uphold religious values, while still keeping up with fashion and looking great.
ABC’S Dr Rachael Kohn moderated the event and will broadcast a recording of the discussion on her Radio National show The Spirit of Things, Sunday September 1.
The Museum also recently held a book club event attracting more than 110 people. Dr Kooshyar Karimi spoke about his book I Confess. Dr Karimi grew up in Iran to a Jewish mother and an absent Muslim father. In 1998 he was kidnapped from the streets, imprisoned and tortured. Now based in NSW, Dr Karimi is a father, doctor, writer and translator.
