Exploring creation and creativity: The Sydney Jewish Writers Festival 2024
The Sydney Jewish Writers Festival (SJWF) is a cornerstone of the cultural calendar, bringing together a vibrant community of writers, readers, and thinkers to celebrate Jewish literature and its profound impact on society.
The 2024 festival will be held from August 21 to 25 and will use the theme of “Genesis.” It explores creation, creativity, family, conflict, and new beginnings, offering a rich tapestry of events that delve into these foundational themes. The festival promises to be an inspiring journey through words and stories that echo the ancient and the contemporary.
This year’s program, curated by SJWF Director Anna Stern, draws inspiration from the Book of Genesis. This theme weaves through the festival, highlighting the importance of origins and the continuous unfolding of new narratives. The festival artwork, centred around the Hebrew letter ‘bet’ (ב), symbolises growth and expansion, underscoring the dynamic energy and ripple effect of words and texts.
