Plenum at Newtown
Newtown Synagogue is to be the venue of a NSW Jewish Board of Deputies’ monthly plenum for the second time in the 66-year history of the Board.
The Newtown area is home to a number of the residents of Marrickville, which was the centre of controversy over Marrickville Council’s resolution to boycott Israel. The resolution was subsequently overturned. The plenum will be held on Tuesday June 21 at 7.30pm.
Board CEO Vic Alhadeff urged members of the community to attend in large numbers. “It is important to support the many distinctive components of our community,“ he said. “In this particular case, Jewish residents of the area stood up proudly in the way they responded to the Marrickville issue, and this will be an apposite way of acknowledging their commitment and their efforts.”
The Board recently held a plenum in Maroubra Synagogue, and will hold a forthcoming meeting in Cremorne Synagogue.
