Principal Andrew Watt praised the graduating class, stating, “Mazal tov to the Class of 2024 on a very impressive set of HSC results. These achievements reflect the talent, resilience, and strong work ethic of this cohort, as well as the dedicated support of our passionate teaching staff.”

The school continues to emphasize academic excellence, with a significant number of students completing challenging Extension Courses at rates much higher than state averages. For example, 37% of students completed English Extension 1 (compared to 5% statewide), and 35% completed Mathematics Extension 1 (compared to 14% statewide). Principal Watt highlighted the school’s commitment to learning at the highest level, noting, “We prioritize academic growth and excellence over league table rankings, fostering a culture that challenges students while supporting their wellbeing.”

The top-achieving student of the cohort, Alice Milner, earned an exceptional ATAR of 99.95, placing her among the top 50 students in the state out of more than 70,000 candidates. Alice also achieved state rankings, placing 6th in Legal Studies and 9th in Drama. Reflecting on her journey, Alice said, “Emanuel has provided me with opportunities to develop different aspects of myself, from debating and Ethics Olympiads to music and sports. These experiences have taught me how to balance academics with other passions, creating a sense of wholeness in my identity.”

Other high achievers include Zack Berkowitz (ATAR 99.75), who ranked 8th in Business Studies, as well as Dean Klugman (ATAR 99.35) and Yael Rembach (ATAR 98.25). All four students were recognized on the HSC All-Round Achievers list, celebrating their Band 6 results across at least 10 units of study.

Emanuel’s creative achievements also stood out, with nominations for prestigious showcases. A group of six students, including Alice Milner, received nominations for their group performance “Matriarchaeology” at the OnSTAGE HSC Showcase. In addition, Jesse Barel was nominated for his music composition for the ENCORE showcase, and Kian Hamburger earned a nomination for the Young Writers HSC Showcase.

The school’s subject-specific results were particularly strong in Drama (100% Band 6 compared to 22% statewide), Legal Studies (73% Band 6 compared to 15%), and Music 1 (75% Band 6 compared to 20%). The cohort also performed significantly above state averages in Science Extension, Physics, and Business Studies, further demonstrating the breadth of Emanuel’s academic success.

Principal Watt emphasized the school’s holistic approach to education, celebrating achievements beyond academics. “We are equally proud of those students who worked hard to achieve their personal best, overcoming challenges along the way. Our focus remains on the holistic development of each student, helping them grow in an environment that fosters resilience and learning.”

As the Class of 2024 steps into the next phase of their lives, the Emanuel School community applauds their diverse achievements, from academic excellence to creative endeavours, sports, and community service. “These results are just one part of their story,” said Principal Watt. “We celebrate their unique paths and look forward to seeing the positive impact they will make in the world.”
