This decision follows an extensive search by the school’s Board to identify a candidate capable of maintaining the institution’s academic standards and continuing its focus on Jewish education.

Linda Emms is currently serving as the Head of Learning and Teaching (K-12) at MLC School in Sydney, where she has overseen various educational initiatives aimed at improving academic outcomes and fostering a holistic learning environment. Her career includes significant roles at other prominent Sydney schools, including Abbotsleigh and The Scots College.

The Emanuel School Board expressed confidence in Ms Emms’s ability to lead the school effectively. “Linda embraces the core values of our School, and we are confident she will build on the legacy of Andrew Watt and the leaders before him,” affirmed Board President Gary Joffe.

In her current role at MLC School, Ms Emms has been involved in the implementation of a comprehensive school-wide teaching framework, as well as initiatives that focus on teacher development and student engagement. Her background in Technology and Applied Studies, alongside her experience in developing STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) programs, positions her as a leader with a diverse educational portfolio.

Ms Emms has also been recognized for her work in creating immersive educational experiences, including an Indigenous Immersion program, and for her contributions to educational thought leadership through her involvement with the AHISA Directors of Studies committee.

She has indicated her eagerness to meet all members of Emanuel School, learn more about Judaism and the history and unique challenges of our community, and immerse herself in the pluralistic and egalitarian culture of the school.

In the coming months, Linda Emms will work closely with the outgoing Principal, Andrew Watt, to ensure a smooth transition. Emanuel School’s Board has indicated that they look forward to introducing Ms Emms to the broader school community in 2025.
