Sydney’s Emanuel  School has held its own clean-up day.

For Emanuel School students the Jewish ethic of Bal Tashchit (minimizing waste and caring for the environment) is taken seriously. So much so that Tamar Hoffman, Environmental Madricha, has initiated many programs to educate and encourage students to make a concerted effort to be proactive environmentalists. On Thursday, both Primary and High School students donned gloves and trawled the School for rubbish and recyclables to celebrate Clean Up Australia Day.

Principal Anne Hastings commented, “Our students are very environmentally aware and our Environment Monitors from each Year ensure that our many sustainable programs are supported throughout the School. By taking this responsibility upon themselves, our students are living the mitzvah of Bal Tashchit in a very real and tangible way”.
