Ehud Olmert to visit digitally
New Israel Fund Australia will host a streaming event with former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert next week.
Olmert, who served as Israel’s 12th prime minister between 2006 and 2009, has just released his political memoir Searching for Peace. The book charts a course from his youth, to the Knesset, to mayor of Jerusalem, and ultimately as prime minister and was written during his 16-month incarceration on corruption charges stemming from his time as mayor of Jerusalem and minister of trade.
“Ehud Olmert was the last Israeli prime minister to offer serious support to the establishment of a Palestinian state, and the leader who came the closest to securing an end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. His new book provides fascinating insights that will be useful to anyone who is trying to navigate the current reality facing Israelis and Palestinians,” said NIF Australia executive director Liam Getreu.
The conversation with Olmert will focus on his legacy as prime minister, his final status negotiations with Palestinians, reflections on the military campaigns he authorised in Lebanon and Gaza, and an analysis of the current government.
Registration is open now for the event on Wednesday 18 May at 7:30pm through NIF’s website https://nif.li/olmw.
