ECAJ invites “60 Minutes” reporter to lunch
Following numerous complaints about Sunday night’s “60 Minutes” program on the Israeli-Palestinan conflict, the ECAJ has invited the segment’s reporter to a Q & A lunch.
“Hate thy Neighbour” was produced for Channel 9 by Howard Sacre and reported by Liam Bartlett. Robert Goot, the president of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry has invited Bartlett to discuss the issues arising from the program over lunch in preference to “paper warfare”. It is Goot’s intention to invite a cross-section of the Jewish community to the lunch and following an address by Bartlett open the meeting to Q & A. Goot has also suggested the meeting be held under “Chatham House Rules” meaning that statements made can be reported but those making them remain anonymous.
In his letter, Goot highlights Barlett’s references to “Hate thy Neighbour” …”hundreds of thousands of Jewish settlers are moving into the West Bank”…”building new towns on Palestinian land” …”the Israelis use a network of new highways, built for settlers only”…
Goot’s letter, addressed to the “60 Minutes Show” is reproduced in full below…
