Dreyfus trip to Israel a gimmick

The announcement of Mark Dreyfus’s visit to Israel is a pre-election gimmick by the Prime Minister.

Julian Leeser

Having focused for so long on the politics of the inner city left, he now realises he has lost the trust of mainstream Australians when it comes to the proliferation of antisemitism in our

country and the betrayal of a long-standing Australian ally.

Sending Mark Dreyfus to Israel will not change the underlying failure of this government – which is the weak leadership of Anthony Albanese and the hard-left policies of Penny Wong.

In sending Mark Dreyfus, the Prime Minister thinks he is sending someone respected by the Jewish community to pour oil on troubled waters. He is not. Dreyfus’s silence on Israel is deeply felt across the Jewish community. Not only has he remained in Labor’s cabinet and gone along with every anti-Israel policy of the Albanese government but as the Minister responsible for Royal Commissions, the AFP and the Human Rights Commission, he has been an impediment to addressing antisemitism in this country.

He has done nothing to clean up the Jew hatred at the AHRC. He has opposed the judicial inquiry into antisemitism on campus recommended by his own special envoy on antisemitism and, for more than a year, he failed to direct the resources of AFP or the AHRC to deal with the unprecedented antisemitism in this country.

By sending Dreyfus to Israel, the Prime Minister is not sending a champion of the Jewish community.

He is simply replacing one apologist for this appalling government with another.

Unsure my comment went through correctly below is a copy.
    Thanks

    Not sure about that Julian…..
There could be more underlying issues.
Mark Dreyfus could very well be Albanese’s “Jiminy Cricket”.

As a Catholic Albanese may need reminding the support the Jewish community rendered to the church here in Victoria during Archbishop Mannix’s reign.
Charity Elliott and now Saint Mary Mckillop universally

Fabian Elliot and St Vincent Hospital, [not mentioning his need to protect the sexually impoverished clergy]

Mary Mckillop care and shelter for her sisters of the same Catholic faith.

Shame on him and may he light a candle for them both.

    Hear , hear.
I fully agree with Julian Leeser observations.
Dreyfus has either remained silent about the many anti Israel actions or omissions of his government, but mostly supported them.
Its utter hypocrisy in these circumstances for him to go this offensive charade of support for Israel.

  4. Leon Poddebsky says:

If Israel does issue a visa to him (& that is in some doubt), the only “official” meeting he will have while there will be with the janitor of the Israeli Foreign Ministry’s offices.
