Doron wins the Bible Quiz
Doron Lewin has won the 2015 NSW Bible Quiz held at Sydney’s Mizrachi Synagogue.Rivka Hirschowitz was runner-up.
Both Doron, a year 10 student from Masada College, and Rivka, a Moriah College Year 8 student, will represent NSW at the National Bible Quiz final to be held in January 2016 in Melbourne.
The NSW Bible Quiz comprised a written exam and oral “quiz” and was prepared by Dr Shira Bloch. Judges, Rabbi Shua Solomon from Mizrachi Synagogue and Rabbi Danny Yaffe from the Great Synagogue, were impressed by the level of knowledge shown by the participants and by their dedication.
Rabbi Solomon commented: “I was honored to be a part of the NSW State Bible Quiz and to host it in our shul. The Bible Quiz continues to impart knowledge of our most sacred book, the Tanach, to Jewish children which helps strengthen their connection to their people and their land. My thanks go to the Zionist Council of NSW for facilitating such a wonderful event.”
Rabbi Yaffe commented: “After being honoured to participate as a Judge in the Zionist Council Bible Quiz, there were a couple of points that have stuck with me:
Firstly, the information required to take part in this section of the test was incredibly detailed and advanced. Obviously the boys and girls who took part from the beginning who did not make it through to this stage that I was involved in, were obviously ready for a challenge and that in itself is a point to be proud of. Yes, they didn’t get to the end, but they participated in an international quiz with very high standards.
The finalists, Tari Sztokman, Rivka Hirschowitz and Doron Lewin showed skill, knowledge and the ability to grasp and retain such a vast amount of information. These 3 have a very bright future. Kol Hakovod!”
