The Technion has awarded German Chancellor Dr Angela Merkel with an Honorary Doctorate – a recognition that is reserved to a select few who have made a significant contribution to Israel and/or Science.

Dr Merkel joins a line of distinguished influentials, including, Dr Chaim Weizmann (Israel’s first President), Dr Albert Einstein, David Ben Gurion, Lord Rothschild, former President Shimon Peres, President Chaim Herzog, former UK PM Margaret Thatcher, former PM, Yitzhak Rabin, Michael R. Bloomberg, Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks, as well as NSW former Governor Professor Dame Marie Bashir to name a few.

“I am proud to receive this honorary degree from the Technion as a scientist and not just as a politician,” she told Technion President Prof. Uri Sivan during the ceremony.

    …and that despite the fact that Germany has consistently voted against Israel in the UN, is paying for new PLO settlements in Judea and Samaria, has a loving relationship with Iran and has only recently adopted the term ‘ terrorists’ for the likes of Hamas and Hisballah… As a German Jew I am both dismayed and disgusted!
