Do it yourself chess club
Sydney’s Burger Centre Men’s shed took on the challenge of making their very own chess board and chess pieces using everyday hardware pieces including nuts, bolts, and washers.
The project was inspired by TV personality Adam Dovile from Better Homes and Gardens.
The plan was for the challenge to take one month yet due to high level of enthusiasm and skill this was completed in two weeks.
“It was a very much a shared focus with each person adding their own creative touch and expertise ensuring the chess pieces are authentic”, said project coordinator diversional therapist Mally Ellis.
Physics and maths played an important role in learning about correct weighting for each piece, as well as the board dimensions, with all of the men in the project sharing their varied knowledge and skills.
Well-known staff member Ray assisted in ensuring the board and pieces were precise and sprayed with care. The Burger Centre in Sydney is now ready to take on their first order and expand their chess club.
A spokesperson said: We thank the Better Homes and Gardens show know for inspiring the project.”
