Staff and students from the Year 11 and 12 Advanced Hebrew classes at Perth’s Carmel School recently attended this year’s Annual United Israel Appeals (UIA) dinner, which celebrated the 70th anniversary of the modern state of Israel.

The event saw renowned speakers Shai Lazer, CEO of the Youth Futures program and acclaimed lawyer, author and social activist, Professor Alan Dershowitz present to the invited guests.

The experience was extremely well received and was of great inspiration particularly to those students who had recently read Professor Dershowitz acclaimed book ‘The Case for Israel’ as part of their involvement in the Principal’s Book Club. Students attending said that hearing him speak enriched their understanding of the book and really brought it to life for them.

As a whole, students felt that the event helped them to fully understand their curriculum which includes studies of Israeli society, as well as an understanding of the social challenges of the Israeli periphery. After the event, Year 11 Advanced Hebrew cohort was further privileged to have a personal discussion with Shai Lazar after the event.
