Deputy PM visits Yad Vashem

Julia Gillard, Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister, visited Yad Vashem in Jerusalem earlier today [Tue].

Gillard and Peter Costello each laid a wreath at the memorial to the 6 million who died in the Holocaust.

A Government spokeswomen traveling with the DPM told J-Wire: “The DPM has met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Shimon Peres and Defence Minister Ehud Barak. They discussed the strength of the Israel/Australian relationship and the Prime Minister’s recent speech including the prospect of peace in the Middle East. Also high on the agenda is the current situation in Iran.”

Deputy Prime Minister Gillard has held meetings with Israel’s Education Minister as the DPM holds that particular portfolio in Australia.”

The delegation, which includes Peter Costello, Michael Danby and Christopher Pyne joined Ms Gillard at Yad Vashem,
