Danby uses a sick pass to visit to Israel
The Australian has reported that Federal Labor MP for Melbourne Ports furnished the party with a medical certificate in order to take time off from the sitting parliament in September last year…and that he used the time to travel to Israel.
The paper’s report said it had evidenced Danby had attended a security conference and spoke at the Jerusalem Press Club.
When asked about the trip, Michael Danby told The Australian: “I received medical advice to take a complete break and get away. I took that advice.”
Labor leader Bill Shorten was questioned about Danby’s trip at a media doorstep conference/
JOURNALIST: What do you make of reports that Michael Danby visited Israel while on sick leave during a sitting week?
SHORTEN: I’m not going to comment about a person’s personal medical issues.
JOURNALIST: Is Labor going to take any action, raise any questions with him?
SHORTEN: The man gave us a medical certificate. I’m not a doctor. I’m not going to start second-guessing his medical prognosis and condition.
JOURNALIST: Quickly back on Michael Danby, does that fail the pub test, though? Being on sick leave and going on a work trip, essentially, in your role as an MP, to Israel?
SHORTEN: I’m not going to add to the answer. He provided a medical certificate and I’m not going to start second guessing a person’s medical condition.
Michael Danby has not responded to a request for a statement.
Yep, the media are now out to get Danby, in any way they can.
Brad Norington of “The Australian’ continues to harp on about Danby.
The problem for him is that no one except him and Bob Carr plus cronies cares.
That is why it disappeared so fast from the fron web site page of “The Australian” twice!
It would be interesting to know the actual relationship between Norington, Carr, O Neil, and Lyons.
As for Danby….he continues to be tireless servant to his electorate and community.
