Michael Danby MP, Federal Member for Melbourne Ports, today called on Senator Bob Brown to not back his rogue Senator Lee Rhiannon in her support of a boycott of Israeli and Jewish commerce.

Michael Danby

On the 8th of September, Senator Bob Brown asked the Minister for Trade whether goods from Israel were truthfully labelled and sought to involve the ACCC ( Australia Consumer Competition Committee),  in investigating whether goods labelled made in Israel were , in Senator Brown’s words,  were in part from the ‘occupied territories.’

Senator Brown asked for details of arrangements of contracts between Australian and Israeli companies doing research or business “including in Israeli industrial zones in the occupied territories.”

Mr Danby said he was very surprised Senator Brown had asked these series of questions.

“Given Senator Brown has reprimanded Senator Rhiannon in the past for her support of the Boycott, Sanctions and Divestment campaign, and has stated that he supports a two state solution, I was extremely surprised that he would go down this path that appears to be laying the ground for boycotts ”

Mr Danby suggested that the Green’s Political Party are taking a more extreme view on the Middle East Peace process than in the past.

“It suggests to me that the Green’s Political Party has failed to hear other points of views, and it seems clear to me that Senator Rhiannon’s extreme views on this complex issue is taking over the foreign policy agenda of the Greens Political Party, ” Mr Danby said.

JennyT is so misinformed it’s laughable. All she need do is google Palestinian Israel and find 1000s of sites and youtubes that exactly clarify what the so-called “occupation” really is. If only people would get themselves informed before lashing out… please! You only make yourselves look ridiculous when you come out with statements like that. Just start with this video and go from there – on the same page are links to many others –

    Seconded!

“…Mr Danby said he was very surprised Senator Brown had asked these series of questions…”

I am not, Mr. Brown is of the “Greens” after all, a misnomer, since the colour of their agenda has long since ceased to be “green”.

“…it seems clear to me that Senator Rhiannon’s extreme views on this complex issue is taking over the foreign policy agenda of the Greens Political Party, ” Mr Danby said.”

And that is not only sad and dangerous for the Jewish people and Israel, but also for Australia.

There is no boycott of Jewish commerce. That is a gross exaggeration in an attempt to falsely label BDS as anti-semitic and discredit the campaign. The boycott applies to the Israeli government and Israeli businesses, and fair enough too as there appears to be no way that Israel will end its occupation of the West Bank and Gaza and permit the Palestinians to form their own state. A Palestinian state appears to be an essential step to achieving peace in the middle east.
