Acclaimed South African playwright and novelist, Damon Galgut, will be on Zoom in conversation with Joanne Fedler on Thursday.

Galgut is the author of The Promise, a multi-voice, multi-generational saga set on a farm outside Pretoria, where Galgut was raised. The Booker Prize-winning book begins with a Jewish woman’s dying wish for the family’s Black housekeeper to inherit land and a house, despite apartheid laws preventing property ownership by Black people. The broken promise haunts the Swartz family through generations, brutally framing the journey of a troubled land steeped in upheaval and trauma over 40 years of South African history.

Galgut will be speaking to the SJWF live from Cape Town and will be interviewed by Joanne Fedler, internationally best-selling author and writing mentor.

On Zoom this Thursday, 16 December at 8pm AEST.
