Cooking up suppport
Judy Kempler and Pnina Jacobson, co-authors of the international, award-winning cookbook One Egg is a Fortune have addressed the Annual Brunch of the Friends of Montefiore at Melbourne’s Leonda by the Yarra.
The guest speakers shared their journey of creating such an original, sophisticated and self-published cookbook with over 200 supporters of Jewish Care.
The book took over 11 years to compile, and is filled with over 100 recipes from prominent Jewish figures sharing their diverse stories and masterpieces, all showing that food is an equalizer and so central to Jewish life. “This is a collection of cultural vignettes from compelling contributors and mingles recipes with warmth, nostalgia and sociological record”, says Pnina Jacobson. “One of our favourite interviews was with Max Brenner and his sharing of his ‘Rich Chocolate Truffle’ recipe, adds Judy Kempler.
The Friends of Montefiore committee, led by their dedicated chair, Delysia Pahoff, has successfully run this fundraising and social event for 29 years, raising over $850,000 in that period. The funds from this year’s event will be used to purchase a new commuter bus for our aged care residents.
“It is a wonderful achievement for Mrs Pahoff and her team and we are once again extremely thankful for their unbelievable support. This Brunch is what turning lives around, together is all about”, said Bruce Rosengarten, President of Jewish Care.
Over 80 copies of the cookbook were signed by the authors and sold during the event. Proceeds from the sale will go towards the purchase of the commuter bus.
