Federal Labor MP for Melbourne Ports Michael Danby has expressed concern to the establishment of a TV program run by the Citizens’ Electoral Council.

In a statement to J-Wire, the politician said: ” “Channel 31 is crazy to give the US conspiracy cult -the CEC the respectability of TV time
The authoritative book on the LaRouche cult describes them as”The New American Fascism”.

J-Wire understands the program is being run by Christopher Isherwood, a long time member of the CEC.

The Anti-Defamation Commission and The Australia/Israel and Jewish Affairs Council are monitoring the program’s content.

See the briefing paper I wrote as director of research at the Anti-Defamation Commission of Bnai Brith in 2001 on the CEC/LaRouche cult in Australia: http://www.rickross.com/reference/larouche/larouche9.pdf

They are indeed nutters, but the amazing thing is that they actually attract followers, not to mention significant donations from the public.

hI have seen the program several times. For the first 5 minutes it is ok, but once they launch into tirades about the Queen being a drug runner and /or part of a global conspiracy, and other nutjob ideas, I think 99.9% of people will think it is a comedy show.

I am surprised as well that they are on Channel 31, but I think they conform to the terms of what is required for broadcasts.

Under sec 3.2c of the community standards, they are not supposed to “provoke or perpetuate intense dislike, serious contempt or severe ridicule against a person or group of persons on the grounds of age, gender, sexual preference, nationality, ethnicity, race, physical or mental ability or illness, or religious or political affiliation. ”

Unless they do that, or monarchists make a complaint, we may well be stuck with them until ratings show that nobody watches the show.
