One week from today, the Jewish world will commemorate the tragic events in Israel on October 7, 2023, following Hamas’s invasion, resulting in the brutal, sadistic murder of 1200 people in southern Israel and the capture of 251 hostages.

October 6

GLOBAL COMMEMORATION OF OCTOBER 7 ATTACK

This event will bring together individuals, community leaders, and supporters to remember those who lost their lives, recognise the resilience of survivors, and confront the challenges facing Jewish communities worldwide. UNITED TOGETHER | COMMUNITY COMMEMORATION

Screening of “We Will Dance Again”

This film is a minute-by-minute retelling of the Supernova Music Festival Massacre, which took place on October 7. It is a stark portrayal of the experiences of those who survived and those who didn’t. The film meticulously reconstructs the events, capturing the raw emotions and heroism that emerged.

MELBOURNE

October 7

Illuminate October

Time: 7:00pm – 8:30pm

Presented by Zionism Victoria and Habayit

Illuminate October is a global initiative launched by Zionism Victoria and Habayit and supported by the Zionist Federation of Australia and UIA, to remember and honour those who lost their lives on 7 October 2023.

B’nai B’rith is one of the supporting organisations. Their members and friends have created lanterns for 18 victims from Kibbitz Nir Oz, where a cousin of one of their members was kidnapped and later released. In addition, on 6 October B’nai B’rith have their annual memorial service at which they remember B’nai B’rith members who have passed away. This year there will also be a section of this service dedicated to the victims of 7 October, along with prayers for the hostages.

The venue, which features a number of installations, opens at 5.30pm.
The commemoration commences at 7pm.

As well as featuring the Lantern Walk Of Light, the event will include projections, reflections, prayers and communal singing.

The previously unseen images show the five female hostages shortly after their abduction from the Israel Defense Forces’ Nahal Oz base on Oct. 7.

On Monday 7 October, the Jewish Museum of Australia (JMA) will open its doors for free from 10am-2pm. JMA invite the community to come together, hold space for one another and find connection in a place of reflection and hope.  They invite the community to come and visit their Wall of Hope to leave a note of encouragement, solidarity or remembrance as all collectively build resilience, unity and the hope of a better tomorrow.

The Adelaide Jewish and Israeli community and friends of our community are invited to come together in solidarity to grieve and demonstrate support of our local community members impacted by the war in Israel.

Registration required. Numbers are limited.

This is not a protest. This is an event for the Jewish community and people directly impacted by the 7th of October.

A year on, Israel continues to fight a war against darkness and evil and to bring our 101 hostages home.  The community is invited to join together on the first anniversary of the October 7 Attack. We will remember and honour the victims and hostages, and we will continue to pray for peace and for the release of the hostages.     I am not of the jewish faith but i am devastated at what your people suffered on Oct 7 and the year of disgusting, shameful abuse and blame your people and Israel has had to endure with the perpetrators, claiming to be the victims. Stay strong and know that there are more people on your side then you know.
