The severe aftershocks reported from Christchurch yesterday have not affected the local Jewish community.

Rabbi Mendel Goldstein told J-Wire: “As you can imagine the people are extremely unhappy with the seemingly never ending aftershocks, words cannot adequately describe the feelings.

It’s a good thing that the Shul’s towering masonry which formed the outer part of the Holy-Ark has been removed following the Feb quake, as it indeed posed a threat to all that was in its surrounding foot print.”
Rabbi Goldstein praised the community spirit as being truly evident more than ever, with strangers are caring for each other and every member of the community  coming together.
